weechat-radio:$ One group: PMR, CB, 2m, and internet

One closed group, #field (/join #field). A PMR446 handheld, a CB set, a licensed 2m radio, and a laptop with no radio all read the same thread.

  1. Each person stays on one dial. PMR, CB, and 2m cannot hear each other on the air.
  2. A gateway on that dial (internet-radio) carries radio-plus lines to the hub.
  3. The hub uses TLS (wss://hub.weechatradio.com/ws) and hands the line to the gateway on the other dial.

Watch the #field thread cross the bands

Each column is one dial. The three radio columns never connect to each other — every line goes up to the hub and back down. Tap a line to replay its path.

One hub, three gateways, four dials for closed group #field The hub sits across the top. ~pmr1 on PMR446, ~cb19 on UK CB, and G4ABC on 2m each reach their own internet-radio gateway on RF. Each gateway reaches the hub over TLS. ~sarah has no radio and talks to the hub over TLS only. There is no radio path between the dials. hub wss · TLS · routes #field TLS TLS TLS TLS RF RF RF M0PMR gateway M0CB gateway M0GWY gateway ~pmr1 radio-plus ~cb19 radio-plus G4ABC radio-plus ~sarah no radio PMR446 446.006 UK CB 27.185 2m 144.950 internet no dial

#field example thread

Step through an example group chat. Each line lists its RF and hub path, and lights that path on the diagram.

  • RF — modem on the dial you set (not TLS)
  • Hub — wss://hub.weechatradio.com/ws (TLS)
  • Gateway — internet-radio on one dial
  • Radio-plus — RF out; gateway may upload
  • Internet — hub only, no RF
The hub never changes your frequency. Cross-band rules: cross-frequency chat. Pause holds the thread; Replay starts again from the first line. Reduced motion shows every line at once and does not autoplay.

A gateway keys a hub line onto its dial only when rf_egress = true and the destination was heard on that dial in the last 10 minutes. Guest names (~) also need third_party = "allow" (default is deny).

Who is in #field, dial by dial

Settings match today’s setup and /radio commands. Colour on the left matches the live map: cyan internet, magenta radio-plus, green gateway. On each radio dial, the person runs radio-plus with the hub off, and a gateway on the same dial runs internet-radio.

What the app does not do

  • PMR, CB, and 2m cannot hear each other on RF — only gateway + hub + gateway.
  • The program never retunes your radio across bands. Pick spots from the calling list and obey your band plan.
  • radio-plus never opens the hub from your PC; a gateway uploads when it hears you.

Modes: modes. General bridging: cross-frequency chat. Offline: wcr help mixed-band.
