Pi guide: which OS image to write and how, with Raspberry Pi Imager.
site
Sun, 1 Nov 2026
New guide: Raspberry Pi gateway. Setting up a Pi and a Digirig as an always-on station, opening its web page, and what the Station and App views show, with animated diagrams and screens of the page. The downloads page links to it.
v1.0.15-rc2
Sun, 1 Nov 2026
Release candidate (wcr update --rc), with rc1's change plus fixes from QA. Restarting or updating the Pi's web service no longer puts the station on the air by itself: it comes back only if you left it running, and the log says which. Fixed a receipt that could go out without first checking the channel was free, if another station was heard while it waited. A Radio+ station no longer sends a bulletin back on air when the only station around is the one that sent it. The TX level is now always the one in your settings. Smaller things: on Bluetooth, clipping in the radio says to turn the radio's volume down; relayed frames show as relayed in On the air; the station page keeps the level help, colour key and older mail open after a reload; the On the air list has a slim dark scrollbar that no longer covers Reply; and the page header matches the website.
v1.0.15-rc1
Sun, 1 Nov 2026
Release candidate (wcr update --rc). One change only, so collisions can be compared with v1.0.14: on FM, when two stations both have something to send after the channel goes quiet, they now pick their start times at least 1.3 seconds apart unless they happen to pick the same moment. That is how long the modem needs to notice another station, so the later one now hears the first and waits instead of keying over it. The average wait stays the same; on a channel that has been quiet for a while the first message can wait a few seconds longer.
v1.0.14
Sun, 1 Nov 2026
A new "On the air" list shows every message heard or sent: other stations' chat, receipts, beacons, bulletins and mail, with who sent it to whom, when, the signal strength and whether it came by radio or internet. It is on the station page, in the App's new tab, in the desktop app (on air), and /traffic in any client. It is read only: Reply opens a separate direct chat with that station. The station page is redesigned as one clear column: whether the station is working first, then the receive level, then what is on the air and mail, then diagnostics. Help text, the waterfall's colour key, computer details and the log open on demand. Receipts on FM now wait for the channel like every other message, so they no longer key over another station. A gateway's own bulletins always go out on the radio once, even when an internet station answers first. Levels: the old and new level labels now agree, and stay put while the station transmits. TX level goes down to -40 dB (-26 on Windows). The RX gain slider moves in the sound card's real steps. On Bluetooth, clipping inside the radio is shown even with RX gain turned down. The waterfall keeps a steady noise floor and shows hiss dark blue. The meter's scale labels show correctly. A Bluetooth radio that links but sends no audio is reconnected after 5 seconds. A gateway's mail list shows Bounced and Delivered, not just Sent.
v1.0.13
Sun, 1 Nov 2026
Every radio and sound card is different, so the receive level now says in words whether it is right: good, low, high, clipping, or (on HF) noisy, with a hint that names the knob to turn. The Pi page and the desktop app draw it as a meter with a green target band and the peak. New RX gain and TX level sliders. On a Digirig or another USB sound card under Linux, RX gain sets the card's own capture gain and turns its automatic gain off; on a VR-N76 over Bluetooth it is the app's own gain. TX level only turns down, because the modem already sends at full scale. Both are saved and set again at every start. /level does the same from any client. The Pi page's waterfall scales its colours to the noise floor, so squelch-0 hiss no longer paints it white. The page is tidier: two columns on a wide screen, and the error box only when there are errors. Busy test: sync on VHF/UHF FM, level on HF. A mail burst now waits for a quiet moment before it keys. Mail a station was still sending when it stopped is marked Failed with Retry at the next start, instead of staying on air for good.
v1.0.12
Sun, 1 Nov 2026
Data needs squelch 0, and at squelch 0 an FM radio hisses louder than any signal it hears. modem73 took that hiss for a busy channel, so a VR-N76 over Bluetooth audio heard everything but never sent. Every station except VOX now counts only another station's data signal as busy, not hiss or HF band noise. A new setting, [modem] csma_mode, can set this by hand. [tnc] bt_tx_level_db can now only lower the Bluetooth transmit level. modem73 already sends at full scale, so raising it only clipped the signal. To send louder, raise the radio's own Bluetooth mic gain. Guides: squelch 0 for data on the VR-N76 and the Pi gateway, and a target SNR for the quick signal check.
v1.0.11
Sun, 1 Nov 2026
Mac: a VR-N76 over Bluetooth audio should now hear the radio. macOS hands the radio's audio only to the app's main thread, and wcr never listened there, so the Mac heard nothing while it could still send. The Bluetooth link also no longer keeps a processor core busy. The station status now counts the bytes and audio messages that arrive from a Bluetooth radio, so you can tell "nothing arrives" from "it arrives but does not decode". A new setting, [tnc] bt_tx_level_db, raises or lowers the Bluetooth transmit level. The desktop app now finds its station on the ports in its own config, not only the default ports.
v1.0.10
Sun, 1 Nov 2026
VR-N76 over Bluetooth audio now hears the radio. The radio marks what it receives differently from what we send, and wcr was throwing all of it away, so a Bluetooth-audio station heard nothing. Transmit now uses the radio's own audio rate in messages the radio can take whole, and the Mac sends queued audio at once, so bursts no longer break up at the start. Stop, Save and start and Quit in the desktop app now stop only this window's station and its modem73, not every station on the computer. The Pi Health card shows this station's modem73 memory, and the gateway view says why when the radio cannot use a preset. Guides: set squelch to 0 or 1 for data, the Digirig transmit level, and a quick signal check after setting up a Pi gateway or a VR-N76.
v1.0.9
Sun, 1 Nov 2026
VR-N76 over Bluetooth audio now links on macOS. The Mac reported an error for a channel that was in fact open; wcr now uses it, and finds the radio's audio service without a 6 second wait. Setup: wcr -c FILE gui now loads, saves and starts the station on FILE. Setup keeps a dated .bak of the settings it replaces, says which VR-N76 option is which (the radio's own 1200 bd packet TNC, or modem73 over Bluetooth audio for modem73 gateways like a Pi with a Digirig), and warns when the saved frequency is not on a band the chosen radio can use. The setup page fits a laptop screen: it scrolls, uses two columns when there is room, and Save and start always stays in view. Pi web page: a Health card shows CPU, memory, temperature, power and throttling, disk space, uptime, network, Wi-Fi signal and the clock. Mode and preset can be changed from the gateway view. A delivered line now says how its receipt came back: [ok net] or [ok rf].
v1.0.8
Sat, 31 Oct 2026
The Pi web page has an App view: Live Chat, Radio+ mail and heard stations in the browser. New command: wcr webui finds the Pi's web page on your network and opens it. On the Pi it prints the page's address, whether the service runs, and a QR code for a phone. Waterfall: a cleaner picture with no stripe at the low end, no thump after we transmit and no high audio folded in. The axis shows true audio Hz, our TX paints only where the modem sends, and every moment of audio is shown. The page says so when no audio comes from the radio. The web page no longer grows by 19 MB with each login, and wcr web keeps the tower setting without rewriting wcr.toml.
v1.0.7
Sat, 31 Oct 2026
Gateway web page: a live waterfall shows what the radio hears, from squelched to noise to a signal, with our own transmissions in orange. modem73 only collects audio for it while the page is open, and it stays behind the page's password. Setup: wcr setup -c FILE now writes only to that file. Running setup again keeps the web page password and the settings it does not ask about, and starts each audio picker on the current card. A sound card the running station holds is still listed, marked "in use". Gateways now show as a tower on the map by default. The Pi guide explains port 7373 and has the right lsusb names.
v1.0.6
Sat, 31 Oct 2026
Raspberry Pi gateway, from the first test on a real Pi 3 with a Digirig: modem73's KISS and control ports now listen only on the Pi itself, so nobody else on the network can key the radio. Setup with "Handheld + Digirig" starts the audio pickers on the Digirig, lists one entry per sound card with its name, and finds the Digirig's serial port on Linux. modem73 now reports the live audio level, so the gateway page shows "audio in" while modem73 holds the sound card. The ALSA messages are gone from setup, the journal and the page log. The Pi guide covers the power supply, USB cable, Digirig mixer levels and reaching the Pi by its IP address.
v1.0.5
Fri, 30 Oct 2026
Raspberry Pi gateway: the Linux wcr no longer needs desktop libraries, so it starts on Raspberry Pi OS Lite (the desktop app is wcr-gui, and wcr gui hands over to it). The installer adds the libraries modem73 needs and stops with a clear error if a program still cannot start, or if the download itself failed. Gateway web page: the radio light is down while modem73 is not running, errors are listed newest first, and Start names the set frequency even while the station is stopped. The station's log now also goes to journalctl -u wcr-web.
v1.0.4
Thu, 29 Oct 2026
Email over radio: a gateway that hears another station's mail burst now holds its chat lines and relayed receipts until the burst and its reply are done, so it no longer keys over a chunk. A held sender stays Queued instead of flashing "On air", and the On air time in the timeline is the latest try's. Email status: "No record" now reads [..], not [ok]. In internet mode the "Sending via the hub" note shows inside the sending window instead of behind it.
v1.0.3
Thu, 29 Oct 2026
Email over radio: two stations sending mail to one gateway a few seconds apart now both get through. A sender waits while it hears another station's mail, and the gateway no longer restarts its wait on every probe. After the burst, the chip says "Waiting for gateway" until the gateway answers. Email status: bounced, spam and failed mail read as problems ([no], a red Bounced dialog with Re-send). Inbox mail always shows Received, the opened mail follows a Retry, folder tabs show Loading instead of another folder's rows, the subject stays readable in a narrow window, and the timeline keeps an earlier failed try. The website email page now explains each status. wcr update: on Windows every replaced file keeps a fresh .bak (modem73 too) and only those are named. After an update, every station still running on the machine says which old version it runs.
v1.0.2
Thu, 29 Oct 2026
VR-N76 and VR-N7600 can now run modem73 over the radio's own Bluetooth audio: pair the radio, pick "Bluetooth audio, modem73" in setup, and the faster modem73 modes work with no cable or sound card. RADIO shows linked or lost and the app reconnects by itself. Presets vhf-fm, hf-poor, hf-weak and hf-deep (hf-good does not survive the radio's Bluetooth codec). The bundled modem73 is now built from source with this network-audio addition on every platform. Email: each mail shows a clear status chip (Queued, On air, Sent, Delivered, Bounced, Failed…), the opened mail shows when it reached each step, and Failed mail has Retry, bounced mail Re-send. Raspberry Pi gateway: wcr web serves a password-protected HTTPS page on your LAN showing the gateway's status, mail and log, with Start/Stop; sudo wcr web install starts it at boot (see docs/PI-GATEWAY.md).
v1.0.1
Wed, 28 Oct 2026
This release bundles modem73 v2.4.8 on Linux and macOS: it no longer hangs on shutdown after the audio device goes away, reconnects audio on its own, and waits less before sending on a busy channel. Windows still ships modem73 v2.4.2 until the Windows build catches up.

Closing the phone menu by tapping its empty space or the dimmed page now puts focus back on the menu button.

Tue, 27 Oct 2026
Guides and docs are easier to browse: every page has one home category, a jump bar and a filter that searches both lists, compact rows on a phone, and a breadcrumb with next and previous links on each page. Page names now match their cards. Planner: the band chips stay the same whichever band you pick, coloured green (works), yellow (skips, may or may not work) and grey (won't work), with a legend, in frequency order. The top bar is the same on every page, home included: why, guides, plan, map, docs, hub, changelog, github, then a download button. Antenna guides come first on Guides, the planner links to them from its antenna pickers, and the radio guides end with a link to them. The guides and docs filter now hides the cards that don't match. When the terrain lookup is busy, the planner still shows the HF bands. A tap on the empty part of the phone menu closes it, and the map's top bar stays on one line on narrow screens. With a keyboard, the phone menu now takes focus when it opens and Tab stays inside it until it closes.

Mon, 26 Oct 2026
Planner: HF paths get a sky view. The map draws the great circle with its hops and the greyline, the profile shows the hops off the ionosphere, and the card has every HF band with a dot for the hour, a 24-hour strip, NVIS and skip-zone notes, and a live check against the nearest ionosonde. Tick "MUF map" for KC2G's live MUF contours. An HF answer no longer waits for the terrain lookup.

Mon, 26 Oct 2026
Planner: pick a band by hand (2m, 70cm, CB, PMR446, MURS or an HF band) and the path is rated for it, with a clear banner and a way back to the recommendation. Wire antennas say how they can be strung. Marginal paths say why, and only a blocked path moves to HF. No sideways scroll on a phone.

Which frequency: drop TX and RX on a map, watch the path draw, get one calling frequency with SSB on or off, USB or FM, and a minimum power. Digital paths only.
v1.0.0
Sat, 24 Oct 2026
weechat-radio 1.0. The same build as release candidate 5, now the regular release: plain wcr update, the install scripts, Homebrew, Scoop and winget all move to 1.0.0. Stations on an RC also get it with plain wcr update.
v1.0.0-rc5
Sat, 24 Oct 2026
Release candidate 5 for v1.0.0, still a pre-release. Fixes a runaway log on Linux and macOS: if the sound card was unplugged or the audio server crashed, the live input meter wrote the same error hundreds of thousands of times a second, used a whole CPU core and could fill the disk in minutes. Now it logs one line, stops the meter, and quietly tries again (every 2 s, slowing to once a minute) until the device is back.
v1.0.0-rc4
Fri, 23 Oct 2026
Release candidate 4 for v1.0.0, still a pre-release. Setup now lists supported radios by name: VR-N76 / UV-PRO / GA-5WB, VR-N7600, Xiegu X6100, X6200, G90, G106, X5105, Yaesu FT-710, QRP Labs QDX, (tr)uSDX, AnyTone AT-5555N, Retevis RT95 and IC-980 Pro. Pick yours and setup fills in the cable, keying, preset and first frequency, and shows the cable to buy. CAT radios need no Hamlib or rigctld install: the modem talks to the radio itself. Single-tone radios (QDX, uSDX) start on hf-deep. Guide: /guides/radios.html. Digirig, VOX, rigctld and KISS TNC setups are under "Other setup" as before.
v1.0.0-rc3
Fri, 23 Oct 2026
Release candidate 3 for v1.0.0, still a pre-release (stations on an RC get it with plain wcr update). When GitHub rate-limits a burst of update checks, wcr update now says "GitHub is rate-limiting update checks, try again in a minute" instead of a bare HTTP 403.
v1.0.0-rc2
Fri, 23 Oct 2026
Release candidate 2 for v1.0.0, still a pre-release (wcr update --rc). In the desktop window the HUB row now says a grey OFF on radio and radio-plus stations, which never use the hub, instead of an orange DOWN. Internet and internet-radio stations still show UP or DOWN.
v1.0.0-rc1
Fri, 23 Oct 2026
Release candidate 1 for v1.0.0. It is a pre-release: wcr update leaves you on 0.1.114 unless you run wcr update --rc, and the installers stay on 0.1.114 until the final release. Once you run a release candidate, plain wcr update takes the next one or the final 1.0.0. In the desktop window the IN and OUT level bars are now the same length.
v0.1.114
Thu, 22 Oct 2026
Linux x86_64: v0.1.113 would not start on Ubuntu 24.04 or Debian 13 (it needed a newer glibc). This build fixes that. If you already updated to 0.1.113, go to the folder with wcr in it and run mv wcr.bak wcr and mv wcr-gui.bak wcr-gui, then wcr update; or just re-run the installer. From now on wcr update tries the new version first and puts the old one back if it will not start. /freq 1296 MHz works with a space before the unit. Check mail now waits for the gateway from when the request goes on air, so it no longer times out during the start-up hold. The Mail tab stops saying mail is waiting once you have fetched it.
v0.1.113
Thu, 22 Oct 2026
Saving settings into your own wcr.toml now keeps your comments and line order and only changes the lines that changed. /freq takes kHz too (/freq 14105). wcr setup asks again after a bad grid square, and typing replaces the detected one instead of adding to it. wcr update says when a new version is still being built. The Mail tab says how many mails are waiting after Check mail, and the / list stays one line per command in a narrow window. ROBUST presets (hf-poor, hf-weak, VOX) now let modem73 retry frames that fail to decode.
v0.1.112
Thu, 22 Oct 2026
/status and the desktop app now show which modem73 is running, and the station log names it at start-up. If modem73 is missing, wcr now downloads the same modem73 its own release ships (checked by SHA-256) instead of an old copy. This release bundles modem73 v2.4.2.
v0.1.111
Thu, 22 Oct 2026
Desktop app: the / command list now lines up exactly with the typing box. With wcr -c FILE, changing a setting only adds what changed, so a short FILE stays short. The Radio+ log names the same mail in "get asked" and "fetched".
site
Thu, 22 Oct 2026
New featured doc: one closed group across PMR446, UK CB, 2m, and internet — per-station settings, topology, path legend, and a replayable #field thread. Linked from the docs index and bridging page. Offline: wcr help mixed-band.
v0.1.110
Thu, 22 Oct 2026
Email on Radio+: Get shows a progress window and says so when the gateway does not answer; fetched mail shows the time it arrived. Desktop app: Stop keeps the window open, also on Windows. Chat: a /report heard on the radio is answered on the radio, and /report and /wx explain where the answer goes. Gateways keep private lines meant for them off the hub, and the map shows stations placed via a tower in their real mode. With wcr -c FILE, settings changed by commands are saved to FILE.
v0.1.109
Wed, 21 Oct 2026
Email: pressing Send opens a progress window that follows the real steps (on the air, chunks at the gateway, accepted by Resend, delivered) and keeps you on that screen until it says Success. The hub now asks Resend whether each mail was delivered, and the Sent list shows delivered, bounced or delayed. On Radio+, a waiting mail clears once Get brings it in, and a waiting line can be deleted. On the move: plug in a USB GPS and pick its port under GPS in setup. Your grid then follows you to about 500 m. Beacons and receipts carry it, your home tower passes it to the hub, and the map shows /M, /P, /MM or /AM stations with a small tag and "via" the tower that heard them. Chat: a key button explains the marks after each line, like [tx], [rl] and [ok]. Lines that reached you by radio show their SNR (/snr off hides it). /report CALL asks a station for a signal report, and stations answer on their own, at most once every 5 minutes per callsign. /wx sends a one-line weather report for your grid square. VOX now sends with RDM-600S, the same waveform as hf-poor, because the old slow MFSK mode was heard but never decoded over a speaker and mic. It keeps the long lead, and older stations still hear it. The setup page no longer has its own Freq box: FREQ on the main page is the one place to set the frequency. On Windows, Stop and Quit no longer print "OpenService FAILED" in the console. Map: the 24H TAPE has a speed button next to Play: 1x (the day in about 15 s), ½x or ¼x.
v0.1.106
Wed, 21 Oct 2026
Our automatic tests now give a slow machine more time to start a station, and try again on fresh ports if one is taken, so they fail less often for reasons that have nothing to do with the radio. The modes guide now says that loud music or talking near a VOX mic holds your messages back until the room is quiet.
v0.1.105
Wed, 21 Oct 2026
VOX sends your messages straight away again, instead of staying silent for two minutes after each start, and a noisy room no longer holds them back forever. A ~ callsign no longer stops the modem. Stopping the station also stops modem73, and the KISS and control ports in wcr.toml now reach it.
v0.1.104
Tue, 20 Oct 2026
Copy-to with no hub address now points to the right file: set [hub] url in wcr.toml.
v0.1.103
Tue, 20 Oct 2026
A line the hub took stays [gw] after a station restart instead of turning [no]. Copy-to with no hub address set says so. wcr update on Windows prints a plain path. The Windows install runs in a normal PowerShell window; administrator is only for wcr service install.
v0.1.102
Tue, 20 Oct 2026
Copy-to waits for the hub: a code typed while the hub is down is kept and shows "hub not confirmed" until confirm is pressed again. Radio+ sets copy-to straight with the hub over the internet, never on the air. An empty address turns copy-to off. The hub needs this build too. In internet mode a line the hub took stays [gw]; the late [tx] no longer replaces it, and history shows [gw] too. Joining #bulletin echoes JOIN once.
v0.1.101
Tue, 20 Oct 2026
The hub connects as soon as the station starts, without waiting for the radio to finish opening. After you set the computer clock, the next hello is accepted instead of staying refused as clock skew. If the station does not come up, the window says why instead of sitting on station starting.

Tue, 20 Oct 2026
A troubleshooting page covers an installer that sits while WeeChat downloads, and a PC clock that reads clock skew. On Windows, open PowerShell as administrator.

Mon, 19 Oct 2026
Docs match v0.1.99: a hand-started station needs a restart after wcr update, the beacon countdown and startup hold, and mail is Sent only after the gateway accepts it.
v0.1.99
Mon, 19 Oct 2026
A far member's receipt walks all the way home again: a relay further down the chain keeps carrying it, a retry interval apart, until it hears the next station carry it on, so a group line from the far end reaches [all]. The two-copy cap stays for the station next to the sender. Each line copy is now logged as it goes to the modem, so retries after [ok], which show no mark, can be seen in the log.
v0.1.98
Sun, 19 Oct 2026
A neighbour hears a direct message on its first copy: a retry waits while that copy is still on its way to the modem, never goes while the neighbour's receipt is still due, and lets a due beacon go first. Warm-up beacons never go more than two minutes apart, even with a direct message's receipt pending. Receipts are capped: a relay carries a far member's receipt twice at most, a station's own receipt goes once plus once per retry heard, and a far member's receipt walks home a retry interval apart. A gateway takes its beacon back once a mail starts arriving, right up to the moment the beacon reaches the modem. The queue count drops a line once its last copy has gone.
v0.1.97
Sun, 19 Oct 2026
The queue count in the status bar counts only what the station still has to key, so it returns to 0 once traffic stops; before, every beacon heard added one. A neighbour hears a station's first direct message and invite first time after a fresh start: a new roster replaces the one before it instead of stacking, a line's retry timer counts from when its copy reaches the modem, and priority retries wait out the modem's 30 s hold rather than keying twice a few seconds apart. Warm-up beacons keep their pace with the station's own lines queued: a due beacon goes ahead of queued invites and lines, waits out one exchange at most, and is taken back from the air queue once at most.
v0.1.96
Sun, 18 Oct 2026
A big mail sent just after start reaches the gateway again: a gateway that missed the first chunk, the only one that names the sender, is now asked with that chunk when nothing came back, and every mail chunk a gateway ignores is logged. A receipt waits until the sender has stopped keying, so a station next to the sender is heard, and stations on a busy channel no longer key in step over each other's lines. Warm-up beacons go ahead of a station's own queued lines, and a quiet channel's beacons stay at least 5 minutes apart.
v0.1.95
Sat, 17 Oct 2026
Beacons keep their pace on a busy chain: a station sends its first three about a minute apart, then one every 5 minutes, and a beacon that falls due waits until a line's receipt or a mail's acceptance has come instead of landing between them. The beacon countdown shows pending until the beacon reaches the modem. Lines sent just after start wait until another station has been heard. A relay no longer sends a receipt it carries again because another copy of it came in, and a receipt queued behind other frames keys straight after them instead of being held by the modem's carrier sense.
v0.1.94
Sat, 17 Oct 2026
Beacons go out on a channel that always reads busy: a station beacons at least every 10 minutes, and a busy reading holds a beacon only until 10 seconds after the last frame it decoded. Each receipt is logged as it goes to the modem, and the beacon log now shows every beacon sent. A modem no longer drops an invite's first copy when a shorter message switches it to a narrower mode, and a relay keeps its copy of a direct message when it hears the sender's retry. A relay that knows only the station that passed it a group line still sends the line on once, even if that station's receipt arrives before its copy goes out.
v0.1.93
Fri, 16 Oct 2026
Big mail goes out in one burst again: a chat receipt no longer switches the modem under it, and the gateway waits for the rest of a burst before asking for what is missing. The station next to a sender stops repeating each receipt four or five times, a line a relay carried on stays [rl] until its receipt comes, and beacons are logged as they key. A relay that missed the next station's beacons still passes a direct message's retries on.
v0.1.92
Fri, 16 Oct 2026
Idle beacons go every five minutes instead of every minute. A station still beacons about once a minute for its first three minutes, so its neighbours learn it, and beacons still wait ten minutes after traffic, now mail included, and go at least every ten minutes. The beacon countdown shows when the next beacon actually goes.
v0.1.91
Thu, 15 Oct 2026
Marks on your line only move forward: no retry or waiting after [rl] or [ok], and the last try waits two intervals before [no]. An invite to a closed group travels the group's 6 hops, so a station four hops out gets it, and anyone who sends on the channel or answers it joins every member list. The ends of a chain relay a line once, a relay keys a line at most three times, and beacons wait ten minutes after traffic.
v0.1.90
Thu, 15 Oct 2026
A long radio-plus mail waits for the gateway's acceptance before it tries again, so it reaches Sent instead of keying the whole mail twice. On a chain, each relay keeps sending a group line until it hears the next station, receipts travel back toward the sender only, and neighbours answering the same line take turns. Only stations that heard a #bulletin from its sender ACK it. Beacons pause for a minute after traffic. Receipts carry one new byte; older versions still read them.
v0.1.89
Thu, 15 Oct 2026
Every station on a chain now lists the whole group, group receipts come back from the far end so G1 and G2 reach [all], and every relay keeps sending a bulletin until it hears a station further along. A long radio-plus mail keeps the radio for its whole burst, so the last chunk is no longer lost at 47/48, and a resend keys only the chunks the gateway's newest report says are missing.
v0.1.88
Thu, 15 Oct 2026
A long mail keeps one chunk count, so a resend of the missing pieces still completes. A progress report while the burst is keying does not start another send, and the airtime hint matches the chunks that are keyed. [rl] shows once. A group receipt walks back with the same hops and retries as the message, and a bulletin relay keeps sending until a station further along is heard.
v0.1.87
Wed, 14 Oct 2026
A relay sends a group line again when the sender retries and nothing further along has been heard. When some members have confirmed, the line says waiting on acks, and [all] appears once. A long mail resends only the missing chunks. The airtime hint matches that count and keeps 1 burst singular, and the log reads try 1/4 through try 4/4. NAMES lists the members stored on this station, and a new group sends that roster at 6 hops.
v0.1.86
Wed, 14 Oct 2026
The gateway mail acknowledgement is one slow frame, sent after a quiet gap. A second copy of the same mail is acknowledged again and is not posted twice. Check mail with nothing waiting says "no new mail". Group names longer than 8 characters are refused. Closed groups start at 6 hops, [all] means every stored member acknowledged, and hearing a neighbour relay shows [rl].
v0.1.85
Wed, 14 Oct 2026
Radio-plus mail stays in the outbox at [tx] until the gateway says it was accepted, then it shows [ok]. Chunks the gateway has show [gw], and the rest are sent again until the row fails with the reason. A message still at [tx] after five minutes is Failed. A closed group a gateway uploads is also relayed on the radio. Map lines glow for about 8 seconds, then stay faintly for 48 hours.
v0.1.84
Wed, 14 Oct 2026
After the last copy, the station waits one more interval for an acknowledgement before it shows [no], and it does not key during that wait. Delivery marks go only to the client that sent the line. A closed group keeps retrying until every stored member has acknowledged, then shows [all]. The map draws an arc only between two stations that addressed each other.
v0.1.83
Wed, 14 Oct 2026
Two direct messages sent in the same second no longer share a message id, so each acknowledgement stays on its own line. #bulletin stops at [ok]. A closed group shows [all] when every stored member has acknowledged. [xN] is how many times the line was keyed; with 3 retries the last copy is [x4].
v0.1.82
Tue, 13 Oct 2026
A due retry now keys when its hold reaches zero, even if the modem stays in receive, and the line advances [x1], [x2], [x3], then [no]. Setup asks whether to keep the detected grid with [Y/n], and Enter keeps the square already filled in. The installer prints wcr setup as the next command.
v0.1.81
Tue, 13 Oct 2026
The installer no longer leaves minttyrc beside wcr on Linux or macOS. That file is only for the Windows terminal. It says what it is about to install, and if this folder is not on PATH it adds it and prints the line to run before wcr setup.
v0.1.80
Tue, 13 Oct 2026
A direct message now shows for the station it was sent to, and the sender gets [ok] once that station confirms it. #bulletin stops at [ok]. A closed group reaches [all] when every member has confirmed. An acknowledgement does not wait out a noise floor: it keys with carrier sense off after about 3 seconds, and carrier sense stays on while another frame is being received.

Mon, 28 Sep 2026
The hops page adds a third map of the same 20m cities. Lisbon is internet-radio and calls Bucharest, who is on internet with the radio off. The air hops still run through Barcelona and Munich, and stop there. Bucharest reads the line from the hub.
site
Mon, 28 Sep 2026
A hops page maps a 20m relay across Europe, Lisbon to Bucharest, and a 2m relay around Kyiv, Bucha to Boryspil. Same dial, no hub. A normal message has three hops left.

Mon, 28 Sep 2026
The internet-radio TOWER switch now spans the full station row, matching MODE and PRESET, so it is easier to tap.
v0.1.78
Sat, 26 Sep 2026
In internet-radio, TOWER on shows that station on the map as a small tower with its frequency beside the icon. Other modes keep the station mark. The switch does not change what the radio sends.

Tue, 22 Sep 2026
Map pins stay on the station's grid at every zoom. A new station uses the same marker, so it does not slide as you zoom.
v0.1.77
Mon, 21 Sep 2026
A gateway sending mail back over the radio now uses its VOX lead, so the body is not clipped when the transmitter opens. Email takes the radio before a queued chat frame can start. Live Chat's own transmit path is unchanged. Both the hill station and the gateway need this build.
v0.1.76
Mon, 21 Sep 2026
Copy-to now finishes on the hub, so mail that arrives is copied to the personal inbox after the code is accepted. The copy follows the callsign that wrote the mail. On Radio+, Check mail asks the gateway for that station's inbox. The gateway can fetch it only when the station signed the request. Both the hill station and the gateway need this build.
v0.1.75
Mon, 21 Sep 2026
The map marks email with an orange e beside the station logo and an orange arc for the hop. Callsigns only. Replay draws those lines, and station colours from reports this hub has stored since this release. Setup lists the on-air paths in a column. The Email tab names Internet, Internet+Radio, and Radio+ with a gateway. Live Chat and Email leave setup once the station is configured. The hub page explains that machine.
v0.1.74
Mon, 21 Sep 2026
Email is back beside Live Chat. A licensed callsign can send plain text to an internet address. Radio-plus still keys it to the gateway you set. Internet modes hand it to the hub, which sends it through Resend as callsign@mail.weechatradio.com only after Resend accepts it. Inbound mail waits at the hub until you check. Live Chat's radio path is unchanged.
v0.1.73
Mon, 21 Sep 2026
A long message now gets its [ok] back. Long lines are sent in several radio bursts, and the rebuilt message had lost the flag that asks the other station to confirm it, so the receiver stayed quiet and this station kept resending. The confirmation now survives, so a long line is marked delivered once and the repeats stop.
v0.1.72
Mon, 21 Sep 2026
Messages longer than about 145 characters now reach the other station. A long line used to switch the radio to a fast mode that a weak or VOX audio path cannot decode, so it was heard and thrown away. Long lines now stay on the robust mode, each burst is sized to fit that mode, and the app waits for the radio to finish sending before it changes mode, so a burst is no longer dropped part-way.
v0.1.71
Mon, 21 Sep 2026
Full rollback to the user-confirmed v0.1.56 repository after Live Chat audio remained broken. Email is removed and will be rebuilt from scratch only after Live Chat is reconfirmed.
v0.1.56
Sun, 20 Sep 2026
A line longer than 300 bytes is split on a word boundary and sent as more than one radio burst, instead of looking sent and never keying. A failed send now shows in the station panel.
v0.1.55
Sun, 20 Sep 2026
A leftover long room name such as #compatriots now matches the 8-letter dest on the air, so the first send can get [ok]. The station panel shows when the next beacon or relay/retry is due.
v0.1.54
Sun, 20 Sep 2026
Room names are 8 letters on the radio; a longer name such as #compatriots is shortened to #compatri so both stations stay in the same room. You can leave a closed room on this computer; the others keep it if anyone is still in it.
v0.1.53
Sun, 20 Sep 2026
A channel invite now opens that room on the other station. The Mac GUI uses the same dark picklists and text fields as Windows, so green mode names stay readable.
v0.1.52
Sun, 20 Sep 2026
Hearing our own ACK no longer paints [rl] over [ok]. An ACK addressed to us is not put back on the air. WeeChat and the TUI now use [ok] / [rl] so delivered and relayed are not the same mark.
v0.1.51
Sun, 20 Sep 2026
Radio stations still post map metadata when a telemetry URL is set; chat stays off the hub. In internet-radio the LAN mesh is a gap-fill like the hub, not an always-on second path.
v0.1.50
Sun, 20 Sep 2026
Hearing our own frame (speaker echo or a relay) no longer turns [ok] back into [rl]. A low-SNR ACK no longer steps the modem down; retries still go slower only when a line is actually missing.
v0.1.49
Sun, 20 Sep 2026
VOX stations no longer send automatic “I’m here” beacons; that 1400 ms tone was walking on inbound frames. The Windows IN meter falls back to empty after a quiet stretch instead of sitting on the last decode.
v0.1.48
Sun, 20 Sep 2026
A short group chat line that fits one modem frame is sent as one shot. vox-safe used to split those into three fragments, so chat stayed empty unless two arrived.
v0.1.47
Sun, 20 Sep 2026
Windows meters no longer tap the capture endpoint; that peak-meter Activate was breaking MFSK CRC. Slow presets (vox-safe, hf-deep, hf-poor, hf-weak) use a -50 dB CSMA threshold so the modem does not key over a quiet inbound frame.
v0.1.46
Sun, 20 Sep 2026
Windows IN/OUT meters read WASAPI endpoint peaks instead of opening a second capture. That second stream made modem73 reconnect in a loop and report no audio. A short audio-unhealthy blip no longer wipes the bars.
v0.1.45
Sat, 19 Sep 2026
Keep IN/OUT meters alive when modem73 reports a negative frame count. Drop the stuck “no modem” label after a later attach. Do not treat control events as command replies. Restart if modem73 exits. Bind chat and status before opening the store so the Mac GUI is not stuck on station starting.
v0.1.44
Sat, 19 Sep 2026
vox-safe and hf-deep pass MFSK-32R as --mfsk-mode so modem73 stays up. A child that already exited is dropped instead of reused, so the next start can try again.
site

v0.1.43
Sat, 19 Sep 2026
vox-safe always uses MFSK-32R with a 900 ms lead and 300 ms tail so VOX has time to key. Clear chat on the channel row (or /clear) drops that room’s history on this computer only.
v0.1.42
Sat, 19 Sep 2026
Chat shows when a line arrived (local date and time to the second) and how many times you keyed it over radio ([x1], [x2], …). Clock skew no longer latches on delayed store-and-forward traffic after the PC clock is synced.
v0.1.41
Sat, 19 Sep 2026
IN meter now follows live microphone / sound-card capture, not only a finished radio decode. Webcam mics and ordinary room audio move the bar on Windows and Mac.
v0.1.40
Sat, 19 Sep 2026
Station info shows audio in and audio out as bars. Incoming chat marks how it arrived ([rf] radio decode, [net] internet, [lan] local). Radio-only drops the hub socket so those frames cannot appear when another station later joins internet-radio. Quit on Mac unloads the login LaunchAgent and stops the headless node KeepAlive was restarting.
v0.1.39
Sat, 19 Sep 2026
Mac radio audio: wait longer for modem73 to open the sound card, keep it running if the first KISS connect misses, retry until it attaches, and restart the station after wcr update so the new binary is the one on the air.
v0.1.38
Sat, 19 Sep 2026
Setup picks audio in and audio out separately. In is decode (radio speaker); out is transmit (radio mic). Both go to modem73 instead of a single shared device.
v0.1.37
Sat, 19 Sep 2026
Mode switch starts or stops the hub and radio without a restart. Internet-radio keeps local contacts on RF and uses the hub only when the dest is not on this dial. Gateways only key the air for stations heard here over radio.
v0.1.36
Sat, 19 Sep 2026
Mac GUI: desktop alerts no longer crash the window. The old path ran AppleScript inside the draw loop after reconnecting chat.
v0.1.35
Sat, 19 Sep 2026
Radio and radio-plus no longer copy chat onto the Wi-Fi LAN mesh. A silent walkie cannot deliver via the same network.
v0.1.34
Sat, 19 Sep 2026
Mac radio audio: wait for modem73 to finish opening the sound card (it needs more than 400ms) and connect to it. The station UI no longer shows AUDIO as good when the sound engine is missing. The Mac background service is marked Interactive so CoreAudio can run.
v0.1.33
Sat, 19 Sep 2026
Mac radio audio: ship modem73 plus its libs/ folder in the macOS archive, the same way Windows already ships the sound engine. wcr downloads that bundle if it is missing.
v0.1.32
Sat, 19 Sep 2026
Show window from the tray: restore with Win32 on Windows. On Mac, unhide on the main thread and only the chat window — the previous AppKit call from the tray thread crashed.
v0.1.31
Sat, 19 Sep 2026
Mac menu bar: icon only (no title). Show window brings the app back after hide-to-tray. Station panel keeps its rows when the window shrinks; the help cheat sheet scrolls in the leftover space.
v0.1.30
Sat, 19 Sep 2026
wcr e2e radio keeps both simulated stations up after PASS, seeds a private map hub on 18077, and opens the local map page.
v0.1.29
Sat, 19 Sep 2026
LAN e2e starts the map page after PASS (127.0.0.1:5173) and opens a browser. No python http.server.
v0.1.28
Sat, 19 Sep 2026
wcr e2e radio: two stations on one PC share a fake modem73 air so #bulletin crosses the RF queue (no transmitter). LAN e2e keeps the private hub up until Ctrl-C so the map can load. Map hops follow #bulletin between stations, survive zoom, and no longer flicker the pins.
v0.1.27
Sat, 19 Sep 2026
Paired LAN e2e: after PASS, keep sending #bulletin for 20s so the slower machine still hears the token. Leave that terminal open until the other side also prints PASS.

Sat, 19 Sep 2026
Install pages: one curl command for Mac and Linux. After install, run wcr setup then wcr gui. Dropped the unpublished Homebrew tap, WinGet, and Scoop lines. The installer skips brew install weechat on a Mac.
v0.1.26
Fri, 18 Sep 2026
Offline help lists a one-line blurb per topic. wcr help e2e (also wcr help test) is the paired LAN + private hub test; wcr e2e lan points at it.
v0.1.25
Fri, 18 Sep 2026
Paired LAN test: wcr e2e lan on two machines exchanges #bulletin, elects a private hub, and plots each station on the map at a hashed grid so they are not stacked. Empty hub/telemetry URLs stay offline. The map accepts ?api= for a local hub.

Docs-only tag for the compare page. App behaviour is the same as 0.1.23. Later site updates will not bump this number.
v0.1.23
Fri, 18 Sep 2026
GUI delivery marks are [..] waiting, [tx] sent, [rl] relayed, [ok] delivered, [all] group. The map public log loads stored traffic on refresh instead of starting empty.
v0.1.22
Fri, 18 Sep 2026
GUI delivery marks use ASCII brackets ([.] waiting, [v] sent, [vv] delivered, [vvv] all in group) so they render in the window font. Channel history replay tags old own lines with the same marks.
v0.1.21
Fri, 18 Sep 2026
GUI chat shows sent/delivered ticks (· ✓ ✓✓) on your own lines, same as the TUI.
v0.1.20
Fri, 18 Sep 2026
Split station QUEUE and AIR into two rows with their own tooltips: store outbound vs frames waiting on the TNC.
v0.1.19
Fri, 18 Sep 2026
Fix wcr update on Windows: replace the running exe by renaming it aside, then copying the new binary in place (the old delayed move never overwrote a live wcr.exe). Also updates wcr-gui next to it and prints the path that was written.
v0.1.18
Fri, 18 Sep 2026
GUI: drop duplicate queue/hub from the top bar and the orange LIVE version header. Tooltips draw next to the pointer (scan overlay no longer covers them).
v0.1.17
Fri, 18 Sep 2026
Fix GUI tooltips (including while chat auto-scrolls) and make wcr update pick the newest release that actually ships a binary for your OS. Release CI publishes draft releases only after assets upload; Linux builds include libudev again.
v0.1.16
Fri, 18 Sep 2026

Weak-signal delivery is on the public hub. - Protocol version 2 on radio and internet (version 1 still decoded) - Smaller packets: compressed chat, shorter headers, unsigned on slow HF - Unacked messages retry (default 3). Each retry uses a slower waveform - New preset hf-deep (MFSK-32R). hf-poor / hf-weak use short RDM frames - Emergency (!!) sent twice. Group HF chat split so any 2 of 3 pieces rebuild - Hub stitches pieces heard by different gateways - Status bar shows TX (waveform) and RETRY Operator guide: https://weechatradio.com/docs/weak.html Wire protocol: https://weechatradio.com/docs/protocol.html Every station talking on radio with this hub should run this build.
